Modo and Djurgården offer a high-class final series in the Hockeyallsvenskan.
Now the icon Mats Sundin has a proposal for the SHL.
– I think it would have been good, he says.
The final series in the Hockeyallsvenskan between Modo and Djurgården has been pure entertainment. On Sunday, Modo connected a super grip when they went up to 3-1 in matches, and thus Modo is only one win away from a return to the SHL.
Clear proposal for SHL
But the match series between the teams has got people thinking. The level is so high – and so is the entertainment – and the fourth final game, on Sunday, offered a whopping 13 goals and at times fantastic ice hockey. And in the stands sat the icon Mats Sundin and just enjoyed himself.
– It was a fantastically exciting hockey match. It was fun to see, says Sudden to Expressen.
Mats Sundin has Djurgården in his heart and a past in the club, a little special when his friend Peter Forsberg is so strongly associated with the opponents, Modo.
– I met Peter last week and we talked about the match series then. It was fun. Both Modo and Djurgården are two teams you want to see in the top flight, of course. It has been a good series so far, says Sundin.

“It would be good”
And speaking of that… Earlier in the year, it was Peter Forsberg who insisted that it is time for the SHL to rethink, and to go from 14 teams as it is now, to 16. That would enable more classic teams in the top league. Next season, long-standing clubs such as Brynäs, Björklöven, AIK and probably Djurgården (if they don’t win three straight games) will play in Sweden’s second league.
Mats Sundin agrees with his old friend Peter Forsberg that the SHL should rethink the series system.
– Yes, it’s not wrong. I think it is good for the SHL to have big clubs like Modo and Djurgården, also others, up in the top league. We have to hope that both teams go up sooner or later, he says.
