Mats Sundin is strongly associated with Djurgården.
Now he reveals that these days he also likes another Swedish team, which resides in the SHL.
– They seem to have something good going on, he says in Norran.
He was involved in winning the TV puck for Stockholm in 1986 and later moved from Sollentuna HC via Nacka HK to Djurgårdens IF. Mats Sundin53, became a major icon at the club, despite playing no more than 54 games over two seasons. In 1989/1990 he won SM gold and then went to North America. But he came back and played a few games during the 1994/1995 lockout.
The SHL team that “Sudden” likes
Although “Sudden” has a strong connection to Djurgården and still follows the team in his heart, there is another Swedish club right now that he likes. He reveals this in an interview with the local newspaper Norran.
His mother Gunilla80, was born and raised in the village of Kainulasjärvi, outside Pajala, in Norrbotten. Throughout his childhood, and also later in life, Mats Sundin has been up in Norrland a lot and lived a natural life with fishing and hunting. He loves his mother’s hometown and he brings his wife Josephine and the three children Bonnie, Nathanael and Julian as often as he can. They have their own cabin up there.
– I was up a couple of weeks ago moose hunting and my whole family, with wife and children, were there for Christmas and Easter. Easter is my favorite time when you can go skiing and snowmobiling, the light is back and there is a lot of snow, says “Sudden” in Norran.

The players he likes the most
Even though it is roughly 19 miles down to Luleå, it is still the closest big city. This is also why Sundin has a little extra control over Luleå HF. It is a club that he thinks is doing most things right at the moment. They also lead the SHL table at the time of writing.
– Luleå seems to have something good going on. They seem to have a good hockey culture with loyal fans. It’s fun to watch, he says, and also reveals who his favorite players in the team are:
– Linus Omark. I know a little about him, he’s talented. And Joel Lassinanti. A good goalkeeper goes a long way.
