Mats Skördeman is one of Europe’s best bus drivers

Mats Skördeman in Uppsala has received a medal. He is one of Europe’s best bus drivers.
– 1,200 people globally have received the award. We have driven far, long and well and not had any major accidents.

Bus driver Mats Skördeman is the first Swede to receive the award. And behind the success there is a “secret”.

– My wife sometimes says that “because you are so damn strong”. I think it is. Or as damn good, or as damn great, or whatever you want.

The prize is awarded by the international organization International Road Transport Union, IRU. Safe driving is high on the list when the jury chooses the best drivers. Other criteria are to drive environmentally friendly and to provide good customer service. Mats is humbled to have been awarded the award.

– We all do a good job. So it’s more collective.

“They’re all good”

Many people can certainly be bothered by loud children and people talking loudly on their mobile phones in public transport. But Mats does not have such high demands on a good bus traveller.

– They are all good. Yes, there are those who evade payment, but there are not that many.

It is not the first time that Mats has been praised for his driving. In 2022, he won the Bus Championship. Then it was motivated, among other things, by the fact that he was good at economical driving, reversing and handling.

Then he was modest about the win.

– It’s because my managers are so good, he said then.
