It all started at his first competition in 1980, where Mats Kardell from Mjölby came into contact with people who used various preparations to build muscles. Which ended with Mats going home with 200 tablets of Dianabol. This was the start of many years of addiction and a body that doesn’t work at all the way he wants it to today.
“Bad self esteem”
It was between the years 1980 and 1994 that he competed. During his career, he won four SM gold medals and a silver medal in the Mr. Universe. But behind the titles hid a bad self-esteem, where doping became an everyday thing for him.
– You put everything into yourself back then to get where you were going.
It took many years before Mats felt any side effects and today he has several illnesses that he believes may have been caused by his previous addiction.
