Machines hunt humans down, Matrix-style, and a loner sneaks through the sci-fi slaughterhouse like Mad Max. That’s who dark premise of the anime Blame!, which is currently available on Netflix.
On Netflix: Many sci-fi fans considered an anime adaptation of Blame! not for possible
In the distant future, a mysterious infection has turned the machines against their human creators. In a monstrous mega-city that fills almost the entire solar system, the few survivors become hunted and killed as illegal residents. While searching for food, a small group of people meet the mysterious wanderer Killy (Original Japanese Voice: Takahiro Sakurai), who could save the remaining humanity.
The anime adaptation on Netflix is based on the manga of the same name by Tsutomu Nihei, which fans long considered unfilmable. Impressions of the rampant city with its artery-like pipes, bridges and lines often extend over a double page, there is no talk for a long time, there is only little exposition and atmosphere is everything. Not ideal for translation into the cinematic medium.
Nevertheless, the Netflix adaptation managed to be visually stunning and at the same time remain exciting. Paste calls the movie a”visual gem“, Decider thinks he’s one “stunning action packed film“. blades! embodies an intriguingly oppressive counterpart to some of the more well-known visions of the future, but will still appeal to fans of The Matrix and Mad Max.
