The last fishing trip of the season was something very special for Mathias Carlsson and his 15-year-old son August.
There was no major catch – instead they were joined by a playful bottlenose dolphin.
– It probably stayed with us for 20-30 minutes. It was really a cool experience, says Mathias Carlsson.
When Mathias and his son August were out fishing for lobster one last time before taking the boat up for winter storage, they got an unexpected surprise. Suddenly a bottlenose dolphin appeared at the bow.
– There were very happy shouts. It was a great feeling actually, says Mathias Carlsson.
– It feels like a favor. You are happy when you see that it is a living, healthy sea that you have in Hunnebostrand. We have also had killer whales, porpoises and that white ‘spy whale’ visit, he continues.
Surfed at the bow
For about 20-30 minutes the dolphin followed along at the bow.
– The boat puts quite a lot of water in front of it, so it lay there surfing in front of the boat and jumped. It was an awesome experience.
But Mathias is not the only one who has seen the dolphin. According to Carlsson, several other fishermen have observed the lone bottlenose dolphin at Hunnebostrand recently.
“Perfect ending”
The family has a house in Hunnebostrand where they usually stay during the summer season, among other things to fish for lobster.
– This was the last day at sea before it was time to store the boat for the winter and it was a perfect end to the season. It encourages me to be out at sea even more in the future.
