Match penalty directly in the derby

The coach’s words in timeout: “No more bloody sliding” • Fights and ugly tackles

Djurgårds defender Max Krogdahl reaches for the puck in his own zone when Björk appears with a tackle. The AIK player’s shoulder hits Krogdahl in the head and the zoo supporters who fill Hovet react strongly.

The referees take it as a match penalty immediately and after video assessment the decision stands. Christoffer Björk can leave the Stockholm derby already in the first period.

– He reaches for the puck but Björk comes in late, says TV4’s expert Johan Tornberg i the broadcast.

The refereeing team’s assessment is that it is a tackle to the head.

– Absolutely that Krogdahl puts himself in a bad situation, but he absolutely does not want to give the puck away and reaches for it. The only thing Björk thinks about is a tackle and completing it, and in that position nothing good happens, says Tornberg.

Djurgården leads 1-0 after one period played.

Melin in timeout: “No fucking slip”

Early into the second period, Roger Melin takes a timeout for AIK.

– We can’t slide out there, much higher intensity! No more fucking sliding, says Melin in his timeout.

Three more match penalties

Djurgården later increases to 2-0. Soon after, AIK’s Lukas Zetterberg and Djurgården’s Jonathan Tychonick end up in a fight at the players’ booth. Zetterberg hands out a cross-checking against Djurgårdsspelaren, and goes to a match penalty. It is therefore AIK’s second match penalty in the match.

AIK receives its second match penalty in the derby

Djurgården increased to 3-0 in the subsequent power play.

As if AIK’s two match penalties were not enough in the hot derby. After a fight broke out at AIK’s goal cage, several players ended up in fights and scuffles. The most violent fight, between AIK’s Muzito Bagenda and Djurgården’s Jakob Ragnarsson, the referees take two additional match penalties and both players have to leave the field.

AIK has reduced to 3-1 in the second period.

– It is quite obvious that we have been in box play for pretty much the entire match. We are doing a good job but we have to be disciplined, says AIK’s Jordy Bellerive after an almost chaotic second period.

Djurgården held back

Djurgården scored 4-1 in the third period, and kept the game away.

– It’s goosebumps through and through. My first derby and you know how much it means to everyone who is here, it’s magical, says Djurgården’s Arvid Costmar after the victory.
