According to director legend Steven Spielberg, Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, currently in cinemas, is the best Holocaust film since Schindler’s List. In addition, he has five Oscar nominations and numerous laudatory reviews as well already one of the best films of 2024.
The American-British-Polish co-production with Sandra Hülser will also be released on disc for home cinema on June 14, 2024 and you can watch it now Pre-order the Blu-ray * or DVD * from Amazon. There are no details about the bonus material yet.
That’s what The Zone of Interest is about
SS-Obersturmbannführer Rudolf Höß (Christian Friedel) leads an idyllic life with his wife Hedwig (Sandra Hülser) and their five children. But her house with a garden and swimming pool is not just anywhere, but rather right next to the wall of the Auschwitz concentration camp, which Höss commands.
The family has now gotten used to this and they hardly notice the shots and screams beyond the wall of their property. But Rudolf’s transfer to Oranienburg seems to endanger her previous life and brings unrest to her own “little paradise” on the brink of mass destruction.
That’s how disturbing the Holocaust drama is
The new film from the maker of the sci-fi surprise Under the Skin impressed at the Cannes International Film Festival last year with its disturbing nightmare world, so much so that Moviepilot editor-in-chief Jenny Jecke was downright sick. The Moviepilot community also gave it a strong 7.4 out of 10 points and there was criticism at FILMSTARTS excellent 4.5 out of 5 stars.
The conclusion here is that the film is like… a single series of punches to the stomach be. In addition, The Zone of Interest is described by the director as conceptually brilliant and consistently spelled out and, despite the “banality of evil” that is now more often portrayed, goes particularly deep into the core.
