Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One has been in cinemas since mid-July and provides adrenaline-packed action on the big screen. Once again, Tom Cruise pushes his limits to create the most spectacular summer blockbuster of the year. He even has his own for a particularly dangerous motorcycle stunt risked his own life.
Director Christopher McQuarrie has spared no expense or effort to deliver the year’s biggest action hit. Mission: Impossible 7 has eaten up a budget of 291 (!) million US dollars, making it the most expensive film in the series might. However, one legendary filmmaker is not at all impressed with the result.

Paul Schrader, who wrote the masterpiece Taxi Driver, among other things, regularly shares his on Facebook Opinions on new movies. Just a few days ago he raved about Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the one for him “the best movie of the century” is. On the other hand, he has nothing good to say about Mission: Impossible 7.

Although Mission: Impossible 7 was very well reviewed and was able to convince large parts of the audience, Schrader addresses a point that is actually criticized more often. As impressive as the action is, many fans have fallen in love with the script expected more. It often seems as if the film is only held together by a loose plot.
Mission: Impossible 8 is slated for release next year, but that’s becoming increasingly unlikely
But the story is not over yet. With Mission: Impossible 8, the second part of Ethan Hunt’s Dead Reckoning adventure awaits us in cinemas next year. However, due to the great Hollywood strike, it is questionable whether the film will be completed on time. A postponement of the start date is becoming more and more likely.
Meanwhile, Schrader’s most recent directorial work, Master Gardener, is out on October 6, 2023 in home cinema. The film concludes the trilogy Schrader began with First Reformed (2017) and The Card Counter (2021).
