Orange customers A network of pirates has just claimed the success of a large -scale attack against the French operator.
Should Orange customers worry that their information is disclosed on the web? This is the main question that occurs after a network specializing in computer attacks claimed to have managed to steal a lot of data from the operator.
The French telecommunications company would have been the victim of a massive security breach during the day of March 17. An attack which follows another breach detected a few weeks earlier and which had already been the subject of a massive flight of customer data. At the origin of this attack, the Babuk cybercrime network, notably responsible for pirate software for ransoms that can be found on the Dark Web.
Their operating mode is simple: steal data from customers and demand a ransom from the companies concerned, failing which, all of their lacin would be published on the net available to all. This is in particular what had happened last February, when the group had stolen multiple data relating to Romanian institutions, such as banks, schools or even transport companies.
Orange hacked, should you worry?
The March 17 attack on the operator Orange seems much more important. According to the Romania-Insider site, it would be no less than 4.5 data of data “very rich in information”. These data would notably bring together Orange customers’ email address, transaction history, credit card figures, and many other sensitive information.
Orange official representatives have already reacted to information by declaring “that at the moment, the potential hackers had not contacted the company or issued negotiations related to an indocent of cybersecurity”. The representatives explain, however, being aware of the case and continuing to monitor the situation alongside the Orange group and the national cybersecurity forces.
The Babuk group, however, said it mainly attacked it at the Orange.com and Orange.ro sites in Romania. It is the largest operator in the country with nearly 290 million subscribers. French customers data therefore seem to be, a priori, safe for the time being. However, we can only advise you too much to change the access identifiers for your Orange accounts and to check whether no suspicious transaction would have been carried out recently or in the coming days.
