14-year-old girl among the victims • TV4 on site: “Worrying that the Russians have such large stocks of weapons”
The number of injured after the Russian attack on Kharkiv on Friday has increased to 97 people, writes the head of the regional military administration, Oleh Synjehubov, on Telegram.
Six people have died, including a 14-year-old girl, who was killed on a playground. For a seventeen-year-old, the condition is serious.
– The disaster in Kharkiv is crystallising more and more, 97 people have been injured in the attack on a civilian residential building. At the same time, we are receiving reports from other places about new bombings from Russia, says Johan Fredriksson, TV4 Nyheternas broadcaster, on location in the Sumy region in Ukraine.
Five locations in the city
The bombs hit five locations around the city, which before the war had a population of over 1.4 million, according to the city’s governor.
Ukraine’s air defense says it shot down 24 of 52 drones sent by Russia against targets in Ukraine. Russia is said to have also attacked Ukraine with several robots. The Ukrainian air defense has been active in several regions, including in Kiev, Poltava, Sumy and Mykolaiv.
North Korean arms deliveries
The increasingly intense Russian attacks may be due to Putin’s strengthened relationship with Kim Jong-un.
– The North Koreans seem to have filled the Russian warehouses with attack drones. Both Iran and North Korea support Russia in a way that is noticeable here. There is no shortage of robots or attack drones to attack Ukraine. On Monday, there was a record-breaking scale of the attack, and it has continued all week, says Johan Fredriksson.
Destroy energy infrastructure
– It is worrying that the Russians have such large stocks of weapons. They have also focused on energy infrastructure, this is how people prepare for winter and autumn. Now it’s 30 degrees, all food rots in the fridge and freezes, you can’t charge the computer, says Johan Fredriksson.
– Everyone here is worried that the world is starting to forget Ukraine. The offensive in August into Russia gave hope, that something could be done and not just pushed back. But now we are entering the autumn and it will be a terribly difficult period unless Ukraine is given the right to fight back with the weapons it has. There, you are tied up as the US believes that it can escalate the situation, says Johan Fredriksson.
