Amnesty International’s Nigeria Office announced that the death toll in the armed attack that took place in the city of Bokkos and its surroundings on 24 December exceeded 140.
In Nigeria’s Plateau State, on Sunday, December 24, gunmen carried out an armed attack on rural communities and local media reported that many people lost their lives.
Amnesty International Nigeria Office (Amnesty International Nigeria) stated in its statement today that the number of deaths in armed attacks against 20 communities in the region has exceeded 140.
Organization officials emphasized that the attacks targeted the communities around the city of Barkin-Ladi, especially the city of Bokkos, and said, “Dozens of people were injured and displaced in the attacks that started on Saturday night.”
It was stated that there were missing people and the death toll could increase because the attacks took place in rural areas.
Bokkos local government officials stated in their statement to the press about the attacks that the death toll exceeded 160 and more than 300 injured were treated in hospitals.
Local media described the attackers as armed criminal organizations.
