In October, the operations manager of primary schools in Krokom municipality, Annika Lööf-Sjölund, submitted a report to the School Inspectorate. In it, she wrote that Nyheden’s teachers are lacking in both teaching quality and treatment. She pointed out that teachers’ incompetence causes students to feel bad, misbehave and not receive the education they are entitled to.
According to her, she completely agreed with the newly appointed principal Kirsi Maijasdotter and the student health team that the school therefore needed urgent help.
Teachers and students question the report
Among teachers and students, the reactions were massive. In one debate article in ÖP staff at Nyheden wrote that they did not recognize themselves in the description at all. Instead, they pointed out that cutbacks had taken place and that the school management should take responsibility instead of blaming them. It was signed by 25 people.
And even students have reacted strongly. During Friday, SVT met 13 students who represented different classes in the entire upper secondary school.
Teachers on sick leave
The conflict has led to sick leave. One of them, the students say, is an NO teacher.
– He is great, but now we have substitutes. And it feels very stressful, not least for the nine of us now that grades are to be set, says Freja von Sneidern.
The previous principal was transferred
At the end of last semester, the school’s former principal was transferred against his will. She ended up resigning and is now principal in another municipality.
Instead, Nyheden got a new principal, but the students haven’t seen much of her.
– We want her to take care of the teachers and students so we can have a good school environment, says Novelee Eriksson, who is in grade 8.
No comment from the principal and manager
SVT has tried to get in touch with both operations manager Annika Lööf-Sjölund and principal Kirsi Maijasdotter.
Annika Lööf-Sjölund announces in writing that she does not want to appear for an interview. The principal has not responded at all.
After the report was made, the business manager wrote in a press release that she was a little too sharp in the way she described the problem. She then clarified that all levels in the power chain need support and help.
They have also ordered a work environment survey of the occupational health care.
