According to Ukrainian officials, the Russians buried nearly 9,000 people in these graves. United States (USA)-based space technology company Maxar Technologies announced that it has detected a mass grave in the village of Manchush, near the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. In the statement, it was reported by satellite photos that 200 new graves were excavated between March 23-26 near the cemetery of the village, 20 kilometers away from the port city of Mariupol, which has been subjected to intense attacks by the Russians since the beginning of the war.

Mariupol Mayor Vadim Boychenko stated that the Russians may have buried nearly 9,000 bodies in the mass graves in order to “cover up the massacres and military crimes” in Mariupol, and described the events as “a new Babi Yar”. The German army, attacking the Soviet Union in World War II, killed more than 33,000 Jews in Kiev in 48 hours in September 1941, and buried them in mass graves in the Babi Yar Valley, near the city.

Russia, on the other hand, has not yet made an official statement regarding the mass graves allegedly unearthed in the Manhush village.

GREAT MIGRATION FROM DONETSK REGION

Most of the people living in the Donetsk region of Ukraine, which has been exposed to intense Russian attacks in recent days, have left their lands. Pavlo Kirilenko, the Donetsk Region Governor of Kiev, told Ukrainian television and the Ukrayinska Pravda newspaper that three quarters of the population had emigrated.

Expressing that there were 1.6 million people living in the region on February 24, when Russia attacked Ukraine, Kirilenko said that 430,000 people remained on the territory at the moment. Kirilenko stated that the population of Kramatorsk, which is the second largest city in the Ukrainian-controlled Donetsk Region after Mariupol, has decreased from 200,000 to 40 thousand.
