Mask warning from İlhan, Member of the Scientific Committee

Mask warning from Ilhan Member of the Scientific Committee

The increase in coronavirus cases is getting more and more unsettling every week. According to the latest data, after the number of cases, which is over 365 thousand per week, the citizen’s mind “Will measures be taken again?” comes the question. While warnings and explanations were coming from experts on the subject, Scientific Committee Member Prof. Dr. Mustafa Necmi İlhan also made a mask reminder in his statement after the latest cases…

prof. Dr. Mustafa Necmi İlhan reminded that in the week of 18-24 July, 365 thousand 424 people tested positive for coronavirus and 157 people lost their lives.

İlhan said, “When you look at it, there is an increase in coronavirus cases in the world. We are martyrs that new cases are not lethal, they are more like flu and flu; but inevitably, with the increase in the number of cases, the rate of impact of our citizens in the risk group increases. Unfortunately, the probability of being treated, being in intensive care and dying is even higher. It is possible to say that we have had approximately 50 thousand cases per day in the last week. There is an increase in the number of deaths by about half compared to the previous week. The average number of deaths per day was 22 last week. When we look at the data of the Ministry, we see that there are elderly citizens with chronic diseases, unfortunately. ‘ he said.

prof. Dr. Regarding whether the mask will be made compulsory again in some areas, İlhan said, “Wearing a mask is currently mandatory in health institutions. Other than that, such an approach is not in question in other public areas, public transportation, and planes, very crowded shopping malls. Citizens feel themselves in such places. It would be the best approach for them to wear masks on their own initiative to protect them,” he said.

“FALL TERM IS MORE RISK”

prof. Dr. Ilhan pointed out that they said that the cases could double after the holiday and that this happened, adding, “Even though people prefer to be outside because of the hot weather, when people mostly go to their hometowns to be together, go to holiday resorts, and when there is a lot of activity, of course, individual carelessness. Unfortunately, this causes the cases to increase in this way. On top of these, it is necessary to add sub-variants of Omicron, which is very contagious. When this happens, if we do not increase our personal precautions, if we do not pay attention, the only answer is when the cases will drop down. As long as individual precautions are not taken into consideration, it is possible to say that the cases will continue like this for a while, as long as the variant continues. Maybe the effect of the holiday may decrease a little more in the coming days, but when the fall semester comes, when the schools open, people go to work. It is necessary to say that the risk may increase more when the glass and window start to close more,” he said. (DHA)
