Marvel films have been almost a dime a dozen since the start of the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe). But even before that, we were able to enjoy one or two film adaptations of Marvel comics. Few, if any, come close to Blade. You can watch probably the hardest and definitely coolest Marvel flick on TV tonight.
That’s what Blade, our TV tip for today, is all about
Blade (Wesley Snipes) is the Daywalker, because his pregnant mother was bitten by a vampire shortly before giving birth. This means that we are dealing with a half-vampire who can walk around in daylight without dying. Nevertheless, he actually needs blood to survive and hates the bloodsuckers for it. So he sets his sights on fighting them.
On his extremely bloody campaign of revenge, Blade has to deal with the vampire Deacon Frost (Stephen Dorff). He wants the old one Bringing the blood deity La Magra to life and thus take over the world. To do this, however, he needs the Daywalker’s blood and he certainly won’t give it to him voluntarily. Quite the opposite.
Blade was already incredibly cool before the MCU and should get a reboot
Blade is whole different than the Marvel films we are so used to today: Here, tons of vampires rave in a slaughterhouse where blood sprinklers rain down from the ceiling. Until the Daywalker shows up, spoils their fun and brings the party to an abrupt end with pump guns, katana and throwing stars. Wesley Snipes fills the role perfectly and the cool spectacle is just plain fun.
The success resulted in two significantly less exciting sequels and should now ideally be repeated with a new edition. However, the Blade reboot is stuck been in production hell for years firmly. The film with Mahershala Ali as Blade was originally supposed to be released in cinemas in 2023. There is currently a release date in 2025, but whether that will work remains questionable.
It also remains questionable whether one New edition of the Marvel classic under the Disney banner can be as hard as the original from 1998. The first Blade had an FSK 18 rating and it will hardly be possible to do that again with Disney. Of course, we still hope that the reboot will come and be as cool as before. More on this:

You can watch the first Blade film with Wesley Snipes this Monday, March 18th at 11:45 p.m. on cable one view. A repeat occurs that same night, at 3:40 am. However, both broadcasts are one shortened version. But she’s still 18 and over (via: TV Spielfilm).
