More than a year has passed since Captain America 4 was announced. The next installment in the Marvel franchise will see Anthony Mackie as Captain America after he Steve Rogers’ legacy in the series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, which was released on Disney+ last year.
Now we finally know who is directing the new Captain America movie. As The Hollywood Reporter reports, Marvel Studios is trusting in the vision of a relatively unknown filmmaker: Julius Onah. Of the Nigerian-American director is best known for The Cloverfield Paradox and Luce.

While the sci-fi hit from the Cloverfield universe isn’t the best figurehead, we shouldn’t underestimate Onah. His He has roots in the indie area, where he last returned with the 2019 social drama Luce. The film premiered in Sundance and received mostly positive reviews.

Onah is not the only exciting indie name, which is currently running a major MCU blockbuster. Most recently, the franchise caused a stir with the involvement of Candyman director Nia DaCosta in The Marvels. In addition, Bassam Tariq could be won for the Blade reboot. He had previously directed the powerful drama Mogul Mowgli, which ran in the Panorama section of the Berlinale in 2020.
Captain America 4 will be written by Malcolm Spellman, who has prior experience with the character. He acted as Head writer on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So it can be assumed that the story of the sequel will more or less directly follow the events of the MCU series.
