2022 was a year of surprising horror highlights. In addition to examples like Smile – Do you see it too? this included in particular The Menu, in which two Marvel stars a spend a disturbing evening in a horror restaurant. The film will land on Disney+ shortly. Warning, spoilers!
On Disney+: Horror Restaurant, Marvel stars demand everything
The mysterious Margot (Anya Taylor-Joy, The New Mutants) accompanies thoroughbred foodie Tyler (Nicholas Hoult, X-Men: Days of Future Past) to the star establishment of celebrated chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes). Among the evening’s small group of guests are the rich and famous, including a shabby actor (John Leguizamo). But the following hours take an increasingly sinister and gory turn for everyone.
The idea of The Menu is not new, but excellently implemented in several respects. Taylor-Joy and Fiennes in particular deliver absolute gems in their roles, the imagery of director Mark Mylod (Success) and cameraman Peter Deming (Mulholland Drive) turns the gauntlet into one Mixture of ice-cold Funny Games austerity and Chef’s Table high gloss.
When is The Menu coming to Disney+?
The Menu is coming on January 18, 2023 to Disney+. The film hasn’t even left the screen in some German cities. Theatrical release was November 17, 2023.
