Marvel Star Haley Atwell Slams Doctor Strange 2 Characters Brutal

In cinemas, Hayley Atwell is currently appearing as a newcomer to the franchise alongside Tom Cruise & Co. in Mission: Impossible 7 – Dead Reckoning Part One. The actress is also known for her role as Peggy Carter from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which she first played in Captain America: The First Avenger.

After getting a happy ending with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers in Avengers 4: Endgame, Peggy returned as an alternate version in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But the performance was more of a Cameo overshadowed by Peggy’s brutal death. Now Atwell opened up about not liking the way her character was handled herself.

Hayley Atwell criticizes Marvel’s handling of her character

The alternate Peggy appears in Doctor Strange 2 as part of a superhero team that includes Reed Richards aka Mr. Fantastic (John Krasinski). However, the squad is very quickly killed by Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).

As a guest on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Atwell has now opened up about how this development bothered her, as did fans of her character, according to Variety. She refers to the scene as “frustrating moment”:

I say: ‘That wasn’t my decision!’. As they [Peggy] said, ‘I could do that all day’ and then was immediately split in half by a frisbee. And the audience was like, ‘She can’t do this all day. Apparently you can’t, so stupid for you.’ This is really not good for Peggy.

Doctor Strange 2 screenwriter Michael Waldron told Variety that this seemingly cynical moment was deliberately crafted to reinforce Scarlet Witch’s brutal unpredictability and for one conscious moment of shock to care. At Well, however, this intention was just as little received as it was by many Marvel fans.
