Kevin Costner is currently in the starting blocks with his western epic Horizon, where he not only plays the leading role, but also sat down in the director’s chair and was responsible for the script. But Horizon isn’t the only project planned for the Yellowstone star in the next few years.
So Kevin Costner is apparently planning one another western for the big screen, which he once again directs – and apparently once again cast himself for the leading role. This time Thor star Chris Hemsworth was left behind.
After Yellowstone and Horizone: Chris Hemsworth auditioned for Kevin Costner’s new western
As Chris Hemsworth revealed to Entertainment Tonight, he auditioned for Kevin Costner’s new film, which he called “abstract and interesting” described. This one is one “Little story about a man and a woman” where he lost to the Yellowstone star:
There was this movie with a script that I read and thought was really great and said, ‘I want to do that.’ And then someone told me ‘Kevin Costner has the role’. I would like to work with him as a director. I just thought, ‘Damn!’ I tried to convince him for an hour, but he said, ‘I’ll do it, boy.’ It did not work. I didn’t get the role.

However, the Thor star finally admitted that he definitely saw Costner in the role. Nevertheless, he himself would have stood in front of the camera for the film for very personal reasons:
It’s in his expertise, that’s for sure, at least in that area Western theme based. There are horses, he’s a groom and my wife read the script and she loves horses. We have ten or eleven horses at home, so she said, ‘You have to do this.’ No chance for Chris Hemsworth: Western king Kevin Costner wants to be in front of the camera for many more years
Kevin Costner explained to Entertainment Tonight at CinemaCon in Las Vegas why he chose Chris Hemsworth over himself for his new film. At the same time, he could definitely imagine casting the Thor star in a role one day:
He has to wait his turn. As long as I’m still young enough to play the role, I’ll play it. […] He is so handsome and talented. He has to find his own love story. But I’m glad he liked these. If I reach a point where I think I can no longer do it myself, I will speak up. He is definitely one of the biggest leading actors of the moment.
For now, we can look forward to Costner’s Horizon epic in the cinema. At the August 22, 2024 Part 1 starts in German cinemas. At the November 7, 2024 follows part 2.
