At the center of the new Marvel series She-Hulk: The Lawyer is the lawyer Jennifer Walters, who can transform into a green Hulk creature just like her cousin Bruce Banner. The weird lawyer show with a lot of meta humor now has episode 2 a real surprise delivered: After 14 years, the MCU comments on the Hulk problem for the first time.
In the early days of the MCU, it wasn’t Mark Ruffalo who embodied it Edward Norton played the Hulk for one movie. Bruce’s new face has never been discussed within the franchise since Ruffalo first appeared in Marvel’s The Avengers, and the MCU hasn’t had much love for the Incredible Hulk in general – until now.

Even before takeoff, it was clear that She-Hulk the perfect opportunity offers to give the Hulk solo film a little more meaning in the MCU after the fact, while also addressing the recast dilemma.

With Tim Roth, the villain Emil Blonsky aka Abomination (after a brief appearance in Shang Chi) officially returns to the MCU and is one direct connection to the Norton Hulk. In addition, the series, similar to Deadpool, provides a meta-view of the MCU.
In the She Hulk series, Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany) is supposed to be of all people Emil Blonsky represented as a lawyer, who once fought Edward Norton’s Hulk as an Abomination. But before she accepts the job, she wants to ask her cousin for advice and his blessing. To her surprise, Bruce reveals that he long since done with the matter and Blonsky even apologized to him personally (in the form of a haiku!).
It’s been so many years since that fight. I am now a completely different person. literally.
As if this wasn’t reference enough that Bruce Banner was played by another actor 14 years ago, the titular heroine underlines this meta-joke with a direct one looking at the camera and a teasing”Haha“.
There we have it, dear Marvel fans. After years of silence, the Hulk was recast addressed directly for the first time in the MCU. It is currently not known whether there will be other funny references to the first Hulk film. But we have a total of 7 episodes ahead of us, which we are sure lots of other meta gags will bring.
When is She-Hulk Episode 3 coming to Disney+?
The first season of She-Hulk includes a total of 9 episodes with a short length of around 25 minutes each. The latest episodes appear every Thursday on Disney+. Episode 3 will be on September 1, 2022 on Disney+ published at 9 a.m. The finale can be seen on October 13th.
