News about a Disney+ series that will be based around Paul Bettany’s Vision character has been talked about since 2022. At the time, Deadline reported that the series was called Vision Quest and that WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer would direct it. However, it is now clear that Schaeffer is not committed to this project. Independent reporter Jeff Sneider revealed that Schaeffer is taking a break from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after completing her spin-off series Agatha All Along. Therefore, Marvel appointed Terry Matalas to replace him.
Matalas is also known for his work on the TV series MacGyver, which ran from 2016 to 2021, and the sci-fi series 12 Monkeys. Matalas, who was nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award for Star Trek: Picard, also recently appeared on a Star Trek-specific podcast with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
The character Vision was last seen in the television miniseries WandaVision. Paul Bettany earned himself an Emmy nomination for portraying two versions of the character in this series. This new series will probably focus on the character “White Vision”, who appeared in the series finale.
Apart from Paul Bettany, other actors who will star in the series have not been announced yet. It remains unclear whether Bettany’s co-star in WandaVision, Elizabeth Olsen, will join the series. WandaVision stands out as one of Marvel’s highest-rated projects and one of the few to be nominated for major awards. This new spinoff series marks Marvel’s first live-action series in two years and represents a significant shift in television strategy.
