Marvel boss had only one condition for Deadpool & Wolverine – but that was exactly what was not allowed for 24 years

Marvel boss had only one condition for Deadpool Wolverine

It is the glaring centerpiece of the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, a throwback to the golden era of Marvel comics and the wish fulfillment of many fans: Wolverine’s yellow X-Men outfit. As the film’s director revealed in an interview, the costume was a request from Marvel boss Kevin Feige.

Deadpool & Wolverine breaks a Marvel rule with yellow costume

Director Shawn Levy told Variety:

When we met Kevin [Feige] said that Hugh Jackman was officially on board, his first response was: ‘Ok, but he must finally wear the yellow outfit.’ We immediately replied: ‘Absolutely!’

Feige has every reason to be impatient. Wolverine’s yellow outfit has been around for 50 years, according to GamesRadar. Why has it never been seen on screen before?

As the Variety article suggests, Feige consciously wants to break with tradition: In the 24 years since the first X-Men, those responsible a wide berth from the flashy outfits of the Marvel comics. And in the early 2000s, black leather was all the rage.
