Martine Delvaux, rekindling the fire of ecological and feminist struggles

An essential voice of feminism in Canada, Martine Delvaux was born in 1968. She now teaches literature at the University of Quebec in Montreal, and is the author of numerous novels and stories, including The world is yours and Firefighters and arsonists. Between poetic essays and autobiographical texts, she explores the most topical subjects and forces us to look at the world as it is, with the fever of combativeness.

Firefighters and arsonists

“Faced with the climate crisis, Martine Delvaux chooses the fight, the one led by her daughter’s generation. Here is a book woven of disasters, but above all of hope. Sacred fire of activists, pyres where so many women have perished, will-o’-the-wisps, devastating wildfires, incendiary rage and bonfires: some flames destroy us, while others enlighten us. The world is yours

“Élie is fourteen years old, wears worn Dr. Martens, the pants rolled up at the ankles and the hair in disarray. Martine Delvaux, his mother, observes him and explores all the facets of the vibrant bond which unites them. Here is a book of advice of a feminist mother, of recommendations, of explanations in which we invoke both Beyoncé and Maya Angelou, pieces of the future, fragments of memory. But more simply, a very great book of love.” (Presentation of Les Avrils editions)
