Martina Voss-Tecklenburg leaves the German national team

After last year’s EC final against England, things have been difficult for the German women’s national football team, to say the least.

The weak performances culminated in the big nation’s surprising exit already in the group stage of this summer’s World Cup playoffs.

It was also the last straw for the German Confederation. Now the national team captain Martina Voss-Tecklenburg has had to leave her position.

“The national team’s entry into the final of European Championship 2022 in England has given women’s and girls’ football a huge boost. This success is and remains linked to Martina Voss-Tecklenburg. We wish Martina Voss-Tecklenburg all the best personally and sportingly,” said the association’s chairman Bernd Neuendorf in a statement.
