Tarantino is indeed considered a gifted author, not just among his fans. To date he has written the script for all of his films, and only Jackie Brown had an existing novel. He himself has compared his writing process to that of a novelist in many interviews (via Creative Screenwriting).

But whether Scorsese really needs Tarantino’s qualities is debatable. Since the beginning of his career, Scorsese’s films have been awarded 20 Oscars and nominated an incredible 91 times (!). If there are flaws in his method, then they are flaws that others dream of.
