The Biathlon World Cup is underway with its premiere in Kontiolahti on Tuesday.
And it was an immediate Swedish hit.
After a great race it was it victory for Martin Ponsiluoma directly in the premiere – at the same time as Norway flopped heavily.
The skiing season is now underway in earnest when biathlon also premiered on Tuesday in Kontiolahti, Finland. The Swedish gentlemen and in particular Martin Ponsiluoma and Sebastian Samuelsson was consistently at the top of the starting field after showing good shooting.
Swedish success immediately
Sebastian Samuelsson crossed the finish line in the lead, and then the wait for the other riders’ times began. The Norwegian Sturla Holm Lagreid was unable to beat Samuelsson after his double misses in the final shoot, and Norway overall did not have a successful day on the competition course.

Then it was time for Martin Ponsiluoma to go to the finish – Ponsiluoma who was responsible for a superb race where he extended his lead even further before the finish after his fine riding in the track.

Ponsiluoma won
Ponsiluoma entered as the leader, and after the Swede’s fine race there was no one who could threaten him even though German Roman Rees be close. It was thus an immediate success for Sweden and Ponsiluoma, who started the season in the best possible way. However, Sebastian Samuelsson was pushed down from the podium until the end, but can still take a well-executed race with him in the premiere.
