The captain of Arsenal and the Norwegian national team playing in the English Premier League Martin Ödegaard may be on the sidelines until October, Norway’s national team doctor Ola Sand told the Norwegian newspaper VG on Wednesday.

Midfielder Ödegaard was injured on Monday when Austria Christoph Baumgartner crushed him in a League of Nations match. Norway beat Austria 2–1, but Ödegaard missed the game due to an ankle injury and had an MRI scan.

According to the national team doctor, Ödegaard’s leg is not suspected to be broken.

– Recovery from this type of ankle injury usually takes at least three weeks. Anything less is a bonus. And recovery can take longer, Sand told the magazine.

Ödegaard will miss at least the next Premier League matches and the first two matches of the Champions League. Also at risk are the Nations League matches at the beginning of October, where Norway will face Slovenia at home and Austria away.
