Between the middle of the 17th and the end of the 18th century, descendants of African slaves fled the colonial dwellings of Suriname. They find refuge in the forest and are nicknamed the Maroons. Centuries later, contemporary creations are inspired by their art and celebrate it. The exhibition ” Marronnage, the art of breaking one’s chains », at the House of Latin America pays homage to this culture until September 24th.
