According to Marmorstein, the increase in the terror threat level poses a problem for Kristersson on several levels. In addition to handling the security work itself, Kristersson also needs to handle the domestic political discussion about the Sweden Democrats that flared up in the wake of the Koran burnings.
In the center stands SD member Richard Jomshof’s criticized Twitter posts about Muslims.
The relationship between the parties may also be put to the test further if the government goes ahead with its plans for changes to the ordinance. The plan is to give the police increased opportunities to deny permission to public gatherings with reference to the security of the country – which SD has said no to.
– When Jomshof, for example, tweets as he does, it does not make the situation easier for the government, but they have had a dialogue. The question is how the Sweden Democrats will react when the government possibly appoints this investigation.
– Both the Sweden Democrats and the Social Democrats currently say no to such a change. But just the mere act of appointing such an investigation, the government believes, could send a signal to the outside world that the government is really acting, says Marmorstein.
But despite the problems piling up for the Prime Minister, Marmorstein believes that the security situation is what is at the very top of Kristersson’s agenda.
