Marked increase in debt among young people

The number of people in debt between the ages of 19 and 21 has increased by 500 percent in the past two years, writes Di, who is based on statistics from the Kronofogden.

Among young people born in 2002, the number with at least one payment notice today is 3,093, while the number for the corresponding age group in 2021 was 580.

The size of the debts has also increased, according to data from the debt collection company Alektum Group. If the trend continues, there is a great risk that thousands of young people will be over-indebted with payment notices within a couple of years, according to the debt collection company.
