Meta, formerly Facebook, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Instagram is preparing to integrate NFTs into its platform.
Mark Zuckerberg reveals that Instagram will add NFTs soon
Zuckerberg announced the upcoming update to Instagram at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. Zuckerberg, who co-founded Facebook, said that “in the near term” Instagram will bring NFTs and “hopefully” in the coming months, users will be able to start using their NFTs within Instagram.
The adoption of NFTs is part of Zuckerberg’s company-wide shift to metadata, and it’s a reflection of Facebook’s change to Meta in October 2021.
Twitter had activated NFTs for its users earlier this year. Although Facebook lags a little behind, it is very likely that this will be put on hold due to earnings-oriented moves. Instagram’s interest in NFTs aligns with parent company Meta’s broader vision of a lucrative, interconnected virtual world filled with digital products. “I hope that the clothes your avatar is wearing in the Metaverse can be printed as NFTs and taken between different places,” Zuckerberg said at the event.
It is also important for us players. Because the news that the GTA 6 may contain NFT, which has been released recently, shows that we can see it frequently in the upcoming productions.
