Members of the actors’ and screenwriters’ unions in the USA are currently on strike in a fight for better working conditions, future prospects and remuneration. The effects of the double strike are far-reaching. Among other things, four major blockbusters had to stop filming and may be postponed.
Big Hollywood stars are also on strike and protest, among other things, for better fees and a fair use of artificial intelligence – although Tom Cruise and Co. would not benefit from higher tariffs. But they draw attention to the demands with their presence and solidarity. One of these top stars is Mark Ruffalo, known from the MCU, Shutter Island, Zodiac and many other films. He proposes a radical way to use the Hollywood crisis productively.
This is Mark Ruffalo’s proposal for a new Hollywood
To put it simply, Mark Ruffalo’s proposal on Twitter is: Leave the old Hollywood behind and start a new Hollywood.

How about we all star in indie movies? Content creators create a film and TV system alongside the studios and streaming networks. So there is real competition.
Ruffalo’s idea is based on strengthening the independent film sector in the USA – independent cinema. Away from the big studios, smaller films with lower budgets are created here, which usually receive significantly less attention than normal blockbusters. For example, Everything Everywhere All at Once is an indie film and is considered a huge hit, grossing $141 million worldwide. Indiana Jones 5 would be considered a flop even if it doubled.
“They have created an empire of billionaires”
As it progresses, Mark Ruffalo’s Twitter thread turns into a veritable incendiary speech. “They have created an empire of billionaires and think we are worthless”, he writes. The anger of the strikers has increasingly been directed at the studio bosses in recent days.
Sean Gunn, brother of DC boss James Gunn, criticized that some studio bosses make 400 times more than the company’s lowest-paid employee, TVLine reported. The gap between the poorest and richest in the industry is widening.
And Mark Ruffalo is sure of his suggestion “will change that.” You can read more context about the strike here: The Hollywood strike explained in detail and simply.
