Marjaana Heikkinen won bronze in the javelin throw of the T34 category at the World Para Athletics Championships in Paris. Heikkinen has been a real medal winner in his long career, as this medal was already his 13th prestigious medal.
At the same time, Heikkinen already secured another place for Finland at next summer’s Paralympics in Paris, the long jumper Iida Lounela reached Finland’s first place earlier in the day.
Heikkinen’s third throw was initially marked as his best, but the result of 16.98 was eventually changed to a cross. However, his fourth round throw of 16.90 was enough for a medal. In the race organizers’ statistics, this was marked as his best result of the season, but he threw 17.11 last week in Pihtiputaa. Five years ago, Heikkinen’s SE reading was 19.58. Heikkinen’s second throw was 16.75, the fifth 16.90 and the sixth 16.52.
– Marjaana has run away from the right this year. He has tried to gain mobility from further behind, and because of that the throw starts to run away to the right, Urheilu’s expert Tuomas Törrönen analyzes Heikkinen’s throws.
As expected, China won the world championship Zou Lijuan, whose longest throw reached a new competition record of 20.74. Germany’s Frances Herrmann took silver with a season’s best 17.74.
