‘s correspondent: Finland and Marin are now of interest in Europe
An unusually large delegation from Finland will participate in the Munich Security Conference this year.
The meeting will be attended by President Sauli Niinistö, Prime Minister Sanna Marin, Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto, Defense Minister Mikko Savola and Europe Minister Tytti Tuppurainen.
According to ‘s correspondent Suvi Turtiainen, the reason is that Finland and Sweden are now of interest to European security policy makers due to their NATO decision and their abandonment of the non-alignment policy.
According to Christoph Heusgen, the leader of the meeting, Finland is particularly interesting as Russia’s neighbor. Many experts consider Finland’s decision to apply to NATO to be a bigger change than Sweden’s.
Niinistö has been a regular guest at the Munich meeting for years, but Marin is participating for the first time. According to Turtiainen, there is a lot of interest in Marin not only because of his popularity but also because he has spoken very directly about Russia.
