Sami residence in Västernorrland appoints an artist-in-residence annually. The purpose of the residence is to promote Sami culture in Västernorrland.
This year, they have chosen to appoint the artist Marika Renhuvud as this year’s artist-in-residence.
– It feels incredibly nice to receive this trust from Västernorrland, to have time and the opportunity to develop Southern Sami performing arts and create a Sami performing arts work for everyone to take part in, says Marika Renhuvud in a press release.
“Happy and proud”
The Sami Residence takes place in the form of a project financed by the State Council for Culture and Region Västernorrland, which has been a Sami administrative area since 2018.
– We are happy and proud of the opportunity to offer Marika Renhuvud the Sami residence in Västernorrland. It is a way for us in Region Västernorrland to, in cooperation with several actors, strengthen Sami culture, cultural heritage and the administrative area in Västernorrland, says Maria Oldenmark, head of culture, Region Västernorrland.
