Marijuana addiction can increase the risk of heart attack

Adults who are addicted to marijuana run a 60 percent higher risk of suffering a first heart attack or stroke compared to people who do not have an addiction, the site writes Fortuneand refers to a new study from the University of Calgary.

The study, which has been published in the publication Addiction, examined almost 60,000 patients who did not have heart or vascular disease before. Half of the participants abused cannabis and the other half had no addiction problems.

For eight years, the researchers followed the people and were able to establish that heart and vascular problems were more common for the people with addiction.

Here are the country’s drug factories: “Sweden is basically self-sufficient in cannabis”

The professor: “Much higher risk”

In a press release, Professor Anees Bahji, who was involved in conducting the study, says that the results cannot establish that the use of cannabis can be linked to the health problems.

– But we can go as far as to say that Canadians with cannabis abuse seem to be at a much higher risk of suffering from cardiovascular diseases, he says in a comment.

In its article, Fortune also mentions previous studies on the subject. In a study published earlier this year, researchers determined that people who used marijuana daily are more likely to develop coronary artery disease than people who never used the drug.
