Marieke trained a lot to be able to walk the journey. With a training plan from a coach, she started with a 5 kilometer walk and ended with a 50 kilometer workout. “The schedule is very similar to the schedule for people who train for the Nijmegen Four Days Marches. So the last 30 kilometers is survival, because that was not in my schedule.” In addition, the hike must be done within 20 hours, which equates to 4 kilometers per hour including rest. “The first 10 hours will pass, but after that it will be more difficult”, Marieke expects. “Certainly when I consider that I have to go out with my own brain for so long.”
