Marie Patouillet was a doctor before becoming a Paralympic medalist in track cycling.

At 36, Marie Patouillet is only taking part in her second Paralympic Games. The track athlete only turned professional late in life, in 2017. Before that, the woman who won two bronze medals on the track in Tokyo worked for several years as a general practitioner, without thinking about becoming a professional athlete.

It was during the “Etape du Tour” in 2017, an amateur race organized on the sidelines of the Tour de France, that Marie Patouillet discovered the world of cycling. She then turned to the track and participated in her first competitions in 2019 with a bronze medal at the world championships. The same year, she finished third in the 500m event at the French elite championships, with the able-bodied.

Marie Patouillet competes in the C5 classification on a classic bike. She has a birth defect in her left foot, with reduced rotation of her ankle. With three toes instead of five, she also has a difference in length between her left and right legs.
