– She was my child and now I don’t have her, there is no one who can take her place, says Maria’s mother Ing-Marie Eriksson.
December 11, 2023 was a date that turned life upside down for the Eriksson family. Property manager Maria Eriksson was on her way to work when a private person found her lifeless on the pedestrian and bicycle path in the Edvardslund area of Torshälla.
Want to know why
The alarm initially came in as a bicycle accident and Maria was taken to hospital by ambulance. There, gunshot wounds were discovered and a homicide investigation was initiated.
– It’s empty. I don’t care who did it, I just want to know why, says Maria’s husband Mickael Eriksson.
Now the family chooses to go out and tell in the hope that it will move the investigation forward. The police have no suspects and the family is equally questioning why she was shot.
According to the police and the family, there was no threat or any links to crime. Maria lived an ordinary life, according to the family.
“She was my child”
Prosecutor Charlotta Tanner, who leads the homicide investigation, describes the case as a mystery. The police are still putting a lot of resources into the investigation and they have also carried out fruitless dives in the area in search of the murder weapon.
The police have also received help from the National Operative Department, Noa, to produce a perpetrator profile.
Rumors have spread
Mickael and Ing-Marie say they are tired of rumors being spread online and in town. It has been extra difficult when they have mourned Maria.
Mickael Eriksson also feels that people have believed that he is guilty.
– I don’t trust anyone in today’s situation. The police have told me that I am removed from the investigation so I don’t have to feel guilty anymore. But I know people are talking, he says.
Ing-Marie tells us that Maria was going to be a grandmother.
– I will never be whole again, she says.
Hear her and Mickael talk about the frustration of not being told what has happened in the clip above.
