A year after the last volume, Marguerite Abouet and Clément Oubrerie return with a new volume for Aya de Yopougon. A comic strip always rich in events », Promises Marguerite Abouet, who this time gives a special place to health issues: “ There were plenty of incidents at the end of volume 7 where Moussa has an accident and Cyprien also ends up in the hospital. So I got a little more involved [sur ces sujets, ndlr] in this volume because I myself spent a few stays in the hospital last year because I had my sister and my mother who were sick. And as a result, there were things that really shocked me. I wanted to show this two-speed health in Africa, when we have the means to care for ourselves, and all those who do not. »
Readers grow up with Aya
In nineteen years of existence, Aya from Yopougon saw her readers grow with her. And each volume brings its contingent of new fans. This young girl came, with her mother, to have her copies of Marguerite Abouet’s two great hits signed: “ We didn’t hesitate to stop as soon as we saw that there was a dedication for Aya from Yopougon, number 8 “…” I like reading, but I don’t like other books, it’s only Akissi and Aya. It’s more interesting than the other books, I think », they say again.
With continued success and new twists and turns at the end of this eighth volume, readers can hope to see Aya return soon, for volume 9.
