The launch takes place from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida in the USA on Wednesday evening. TV4 broadcasts the postponement on 23.11 and the broadcast itself starts from 11.00 pm on TV4 and on TV4Play
In addition to Marcus Wandt, three more astronauts will be on board the SpaceX space rocket Falcon 9 that will take them to the International Space Station ISS. They will be there for two weeks.
– During the mission, the four crew members will perform about 30 experiments. Some of the highlights include evaluating the impact of space travel to predict the development of space sickness and studying how microgravity affects stem cells, Dana Weigel, deputy director of the ISS program at Nasa, said in a webinar Tuesday night.
Been in quarantine
Marcus Wandt also participates in a research project initiated by the Royal Institute of Technology that studies how people’s physical and mental health is affected by staying in cramped spaces for longer periods.
For the past two weeks, Wandt and his three colleagues have been in quarantine before the trip. This is to avoid getting sick or risking bringing infections to the space station crew, whose immune systems are vulnerable after spending months in microgravity.
Good conditions
But late on Wednesday evening Swedish time it takes off into space. Nine minutes after launch, the astronauts reach orbit and then it takes about 36 hours to reach the space station.
The conditions for the launch are good, according to the US space defense.
– Conditions look good. There is a ten percent risk of disruption, says Brian Cizek, meteorologist at the Space Defense, during the webinar.
