Marco Reus played his last home game for Borussia Dortmund on Saturday after twelve years at the club.
Then he took the opportunity to offer beer to almost 25,000 supporters.
– It was planned for a long time, he says to Bild.
The German, who has made more than 400 appearances in the yellow shirt, received huge applause and a big tifo from the supporters.
Then the 34-year-old wanted to give back. Reus not only took the opportunity to offer a really delicious free-kick goal in the 4-0 victory against Darmstadt, but also beer in abundance.
After the game, he put up a handwritten note patch at the bar which read:
“Thanks for everything! The farewell beer is on me :-), you Marco.”
The note was posted behind the short side which became known as the “Yellow Wall”, and which holds 24,545 people.
According to the German Bild, a beer in the bar costs SEK 57, which means that if everyone in the stands ordered one each, Marco Reus offered beer for almost exactly SEK 1.4 million.
– I wanted to thank people for standing by my side during all this time. It is not an obvious thing, says the 34-year-old to the newspaper.
Marco Reus has one game left to play with the club, and it’s not just any game. On June 1, Borussia Dortmund will play the Champions League final against Real Madrid at Wembley.
