Hotel in Kedichem known in history

The hotel in Kedichem was once in the news. On March 29, 1986, a ‘reconciliation meeting’ took place in what was then called ‘Hotel Cosmopolite’ by members of the far-right Center Party and the Center Democrats. That had come to the attention of left-wing protesters. After they threw incendiary bombs, the hotel completely burned down.

The secretary of Hans Janmaat, the party leader of the Center Democrats, was seriously injured in the fire. Like other people, she tried to escape from the first floor through knotted sheets, but ended up wrong. Her leg subsequently had to be amputated.
