UTRECHT – Skater Bart Hoolwerf has won the eleventh race at the Marathon Cup. The Eemdijker was just too quick for his brother Evert.

At the skating rink De Vechtsebanen in Utrecht, where the public was again welcome, there was a leading group of ten who had put the rest on a lap. Bart and Evert Hoolwerf were among them. In the end, a sprint brought the decision. Bart crossed the line first, Evert was number two and Sjoerd den Hartog finished third. It was Bart’s first victory in this season’s Marathon Cup.

Ivar Immerzeel from Wilnis was seventh, Niels Immerzeel from Wilnis 22nd and Willem Hoolwerf from Eemdijk, of whom Evert and Bart are cousins, was number 31. Willem suffered from material problems.

In the general classification, Evert Hoolwerf, who won one race at the Marathon Cup this season, is the best regional competitor with eighth place.

From Pierre dear regional mate

In contrast to the men, the women’s Marathon Cup competition in Utrecht did not result in a regional victory. Melissa van Pierre from Mijdrecht was the highest ranked with a fourth place. She ended up just outside the podium because Merel Bosma was stronger in the sprint. Janneke Elzinga took the win after breaking away from the leading group. Tessa Snoek from Abcoude became twentieth and Jessica Merkens from Utrecht 50th.

Emma Engbers from Utrecht is the best regional rider in the general classification with fifth place. There are still two races in the Marathon Cup for both the men and the women.
