Map of the Tour de France 2023 its rather original

The Tour de France 2023 map is unveiled this Thursday, October 27, 2022. The South West will be in the spotlight of this new route with a start given from the Basque country and heavy in the Pyrenees, especially from the first stages of the Tour.. .

The Tour de France 2023 map will be known this Thursday, October 27, with the presentation of the route of the 110th Grande Boucle, from 11:30 a.m. The director of the Tour de France, Christian Prudhomme has already promised an unprecedented route for the competition which will take place from July 1 to 23. And the partner media (France Télévisions, France Bleu and Le Parisien) have already unveiled a good part of this long-awaited card. First highlight and first originality: the start will be given from the Spanish Basque Country, with a first stage in Bilbao on July 1st. A loop of 185 km and 3,300 vertical meters in idyllic landscapes, along the Cantaric Sea, and a double passage in Guernica for history. This is already the second time that the Tour has started from the Basque Country, San Sebastian having already been chosen in the past for the Grand Départ.

A shortcut to the Alps via the Massif Central

The following stages will take the peloton through northern Spain, notably San Sebastian, before arriving in Bayonne on July 3. Dax and Pau will be the next destinations with, already, the first difficulties in the Pyrenees. The Tour de France will then head towards the Massif Central to cut as short as possible or almost towards the Alps. On the program: a stage between Mont-de-Marsan and Bordeaux in particular then another linking Libourne to Limoges, the first of the four stages to honor Limousin and Auvergne. The ascent of the Puy de Dôme should be one of the highlights of this Tour de France 2023, on Sunday July 9. A passage through the Vulcania theme park is also planned the next day, or after a day of rest, then through Issoire, Clermont, Moulins…

The Alps are well on the map of the Tour 2023, with an arrival in Roanne on Thursday July 13, then a passage in Beaujolais, before the Grand Colombier on July 14, followed by Annemasse and Morzine and several other legendary climbs before Courchevel in the around July 20. The peloton will complete this loop by going up through Bresse to Belfort, before a transfer to the Paris region for the last stage on July 23.

Last originality of this map: for the second consecutive year, the Tour de France completely ignores the Great West, yet a land of cycling. The north of France is also the great forgotten of the Grand Boucle 2023.
