38 people were murdered or subjected to deadly violence in Denmark in 2023, shows a compilation made by the news agency Ritzau.
15 people – over a third – were killed by knife.
– This has been the case for many years, says Asser Hedegård Thomsen, forensic pathologist at Aarhus University.
The reason is that everyone has access to a knife, according to Hedegård Thomsen.
– It is a deadly weapon that anyone can get hold of if they want. If you want to shoot someone, it’s more difficult, he says.
According to David Sausdal, docent in criminology at Lund University, few knife murders are planned.
– They are random and often happen when you are in an emotional state, he says.
