Summer is fast approaching, but it is not too late to apply for a summer job. With almost 36,000 vacant summer jobs Place banks there are good opportunities to get a job, compared to previous pandemic summers.
– The labor market has recovered and the number of summer jobs is back at the same level as before the pandemic, says Alva Johansson, labor market analyst at the Swedish Public Employment Service in a press release.
Greatest chance for a job available in health and care. But there are also many jobs in, for example, trade, cleaning, warehousing and restaurant.
– We no longer move in the same way as during the pandemic. Restaurants and ice cream kiosks that were previously closed may now be open, says Omid Rahmanian, jobseeker expert at the Swedish Public Employment Service.
In some professions, some form of education is required, such as cooking and researching. But there is nothing to discourage you from applying anyway, says Omid.
– You can always contact the employer and see if there is a position that suits you even if you do not have an education. It may be possible to walk next to an assistant nurse and support in that way.

There are several ways to search for jobs. On social media, you can search for different hashtags linked to summer jobs, Omid explains. Another way is to contact the employer directly and tell them that you are interested, even if they do not have an application out there.
You should also not forget friends and acquaintances.
– Use your contact network, tell them that you are looking for a job for the people around you. They may be able to help you, but then you first need to tell them that you are actually looking for a job.
There are also some common mistakes to beware of.
– If you submit many application documents, make sure you get the correct name of the employer. It is easy to forget to change your name and then you smoke immediately. Others apply for a job at a time to be polite – do not. Search for several pieces at the same time.
Advice and tips for young jobseekers
• Make sure you get a certificate of employment. It must state what you are to do, when you are to do it and your salary.
• Your age determines what you are allowed to do. For example, you get a summer job even before you have turned 13, but then with simpler things like picking fruit.
• Never work without insurance.
• Make sure to get holiday pay. The holiday pay is at least 12 percent of the salary you have earned in total.
• Keep track of undeclared work, taxes and adjustments. If you only work temporarily, you usually do not have to pay the same amount of tax, which is called adjustment.
• Always double-check the pay slip.
• Always ask for a work certificate when you finish a job.
