Some of the delays are due to regular maintenance on the track, due to wear and tear. But there are also a lot of other activities, says Coen van Kranenburg of ProRail. “In the Netherlands, we also want to run more trains, so that people can make more use of public transport as an alternative to the car. That means that we have to widen platforms, build switches or remove them. That sort of thing.”
