7 vs. Wild is one of the most popular shows on the internet. No wonder: When influencers, celebrities and survival professionals fight together for survival, excitement is guaranteed. But season 4 is causing extremely divided opinions among fans. That’s why creator Fritz Meinecke’s show is criticized.
Everything new in 7 vs. Wild: The new game mode in season 4 totally changes the show
7 vs. Wild has in its show history some changes behind: In the first two seasons, seven candidates were sent into the wilderness completely alone; in the third season, teams of two tried their luck. Even with this change it was noticeable that the duos created a completely new vibe. Gone were the days when the participants feared for survival alone, Instead there was team action and celebrity participants like Knossi.
What started out as an amateurish survival project on YouTube began to resemble more and more of a slick TV show. Season 4 even reinforced this impression. For the first time, all 7 candidates were released into the wilderness together. The drastic consequence: Instead of isolation and loneliness, fans suddenly got a lot of drama in the group.
Soap opera or survival: Is 7 vs. Wild just trash TV?
The new group mode in Season 4 completely changed 7 vs. Wild because, for the first time, the show was about interpersonal problems. In particular, the ongoing drama between top dogs Joe Vogel and Stefan Hinkelmann put the show in a bad light. A fan vents his anger on Reddit:
Instead of nature, skill, planning and all the other aspects that made you love the series, the focus here is on the clash of egos. […] And unfortunately the series follows the principle of “trash TV” with staged conflicts that you don’t actually want to see.
Some fans accuse the production of deliberately creating artificial drama in the group with the candidate selection:
Because two participants have been packed together here who have had antipathy towards each other (Stefan and Joe) since before the season (apparently for years).
In addition, the group mode is far too predictable. Fans criticize that there would be less exciting scenes if the group stayed together and left the responsibility to the professionals. “There will be no alternative teams, there will be no creative developments, Julia and Sandra will not prove themselves or try themselves out,” That’s the assessment on Reddit.
The toughest fight for survival in the show’s history: Despite the drama, 7 vs. Wild is fierce
To be fair, the conflict between the bickerers fizzled out after just a few episodes after Stefan left the show. Why so many are still annoyed by the conflict has less to do with the show than with the participants themselves: it’s been going on for weeks Beef exploited in the media and artificially exaggerated by the communities.
Although there was initially criticism that the current season would offer too much trash, it was calculated Survival fans are extremely happy with the current episodes. Compared to previous seasons, the candidates would have to seriously fight for survival due to freezing temperatures.
Additionally, some fans note that conflicts would be completely normal in a survival situation. Labeling this as trash would not do justice to the situation. “That people in an extreme situation […] Clashing with each other is not automatically trash. It is one dynamics that can be expected under the circumstances”said one fan on Reddit.
